Django Unchained whets appetite with new images

It was revealed last week that the trailer for Django Unchained will play in front of Prometheus on June 8 and to whet audiences’ appetites further new images of Tarantino’s latest cinematic effort have gone online.

Not sure if that last image is part of the movie or just of Tarantino setting up a shot.

The movie stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave with a brutal history who teams up with German born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) to hunt down the South’s most wanted criminals. Django’s driving purpose, however, is to find and rescue his lost wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington). His search eventually leads the duo to the doorstep of sadistic plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). And if the two are to escape with Broomhilda, “they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival…”

The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, M.C. Gainey, Garrett Dillahunt, Dennis Christopher, Gerald McRaney, Laura Cayouette, Don Johnson, and Tom Savini.

While anything from Tarantino is awaited with anticipation the reaction from those lucky few who saw an extended preview (seven minutes long) of the movie at Cannes last week only adds to the already growing buzz of Django Unchained.

Anne Thompson’s write up: “[The] Weinstein Co. is selling this as a bang-up western, packed with physical comedy and bloody action and hell-bent revenge…Tarantino is taking the revenge western to a whole new level as the two bounty hunters shoot their way through the unsuspecting South.”

Collider has collected snippets from the reactions as well as links to them, head over there to give them a look. Tarantino has yet to finish filming the movie and his agent, Mike Simpson, says he’s scheduled to be done by July 7.

Django Unchained opens December 25 which incidentally is the same opening date as the other movie starring Leo this year, The Great Gatsby.
