This sci-fi futurisitc action thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Jeff Daniels and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom) hits theatres September 28th.
The trailer seems self-explanatory but just to recap: In 30 years time time travel will be invented but it will be illegal hence only available on the black market. The mob uses it to send people back in time where a ‘Looper‘ will be waiting to assassinate them. The job pays well and Joe (Gordon-Levitt) is one such assassin. However, one day the mob decide to ‘close the loop‘ and sends back Joe’s future self (Willis) for assassination. Action ensues.
Both Levitt and Johnson sat down with Collider to discuss their inspiration to keep working together, how Levitt based his character on Willis and the world they created.
What first cuaght my eye was Levitt’s make-up (and what I imagine to be a prosthetic nose) but Johnson says the trailer doesn’t do it justice and in the context of the movie it works perfectly. The rather novel premise is intriguing but then so was In Time. I can only hope it stays clear of any cliche endings.
